What is your title?
Fashion Designer & Social Entrepreneur
What is your business all about?
Ginga is an Eco&Social Fashion brand that engages with the social integration of people with Down Syndrome. As designers, models and manual workers, our guys show their abilities to the society.
What inspired you do to what you're doing? WHY are you doing this?
My younger brother is my biggest inspiration. His name is Guiga and he was born with Down Syndrome. We grew up together and I always saw him and his "disability" in a very natural way. Indeed, I never considered him disabled, instead, I always saw the nice qualities he had: Funny, Smily, Positive, Super sweet, Hugy, Precise, Super organized, Cheerful and Genuine. He was and still is able to spread to everyone around him his joy and genuineness!
I found out with the time, that these are usually the main characteristics of people with Down Syndrome. So I thought, the world needs to know this!
And after working several years for the fast fashion industry, I decided to create a nice brand with an ethical and social purpose. No massive production and whatsoever.
Ginga is an innovative brand that has created a totally new way of inclusion: Instead of being a business based on charity, we decided to hire their services through an association.
So we integrate people with Down Syndrome wherever we can in our brand. For example: In the design, in the visual merchandising, in the storage, packaging, and shipping.
The result is that we are giving them a chance to develop their skills for a real Fashion Business, be part of a Team and express their own talent.
Imagine the positive impact that an idea like this can make to someone’s life!
I don't have a WHY for doing this, instead I have "WHYS":
- Because they deserve to have a chance to be really included,
- Because society is missing the nice personality they have and everything we can learn from them,
- Because we need more brands that take care of special topics, instead of just selling massive qualities for no good reason,
- Because we need more innovation in the usual way of working and living.
What does living a glowing life mean to you?
To me, living a glowing life means make a difference in the world to the better. Everyone has his own reasons and his owns experiences, those are the real most strong power we have inside of us. This power can make is grow and glow as human beings and society.
What advice do you have for my readers about living a glowing life?
First of all, believe and trust yourself. We are here in this life only once. It's a MUST to follow your dreams! This is the first step to live a glowing life.
What 3 things are you most grateful for right now?
My life and health
My family and friends
What mantra do you live by?
“Be grateful every day.”
What would you tell someone who wants more from life, but still has lots of fears standing in the way?
Fear is an illusion. We give ourselves Fear. If you fear something, most likely you are the WALL between your dreams and yourself. My way of beating my fears is the same way of taking a cold shower. Just jump under the water and DON'T think about what you will suffer. The cold shower always ends up being not that bad as you imagined.
What podcasts are you listening to?
I haven't added yet podcasts to my routine. But I love to watching TEDX Talks of anykind :)
What does your morning routine look like?
It can be different according to the moments I'm living, but usually, I need a good breakfast and time to enjoy it. During sleep, we rest and go "out" of our normal reality. So when I wake up, I make sure I start the day slow and in a positive way.
During weekends when I have more time, my best scenario is: Wake up, breakfast, short yoga section followed by 1-hour book reading.
What is your favorite self-care activity you NEVER skip?
My private "appointments" with myself. I'm the kind of person that needs to have a special time reserved for me and myself and nobody/nothing else. For me, it's very important that at this moment, I can enjoy myself, enjoy my way of thinking and have fun with my self. This might sound very narcissist or maybe even weird, but I love my inner energy and I know myself: I know I what need, what I like and what I want to do. And I respect me.
The love I'm able to give to others, grow inside me first. So I need to make sure I'm always aligned and in peace with myself FIRST.
