Today is all about makeup brushes! Here are 3 things that are REALLY important and that you need to know about brushes:
1 – Good quality brushes will save you A LOT of money!
It is SO worth it to invest in good brushes! You will be able to use good makeup brushes for up to 10 years. I’ve had my brushes for almost 5 years now, and most of them still look like new. And as a makeup artist, as you can imagine, I use them all the time, so I guess you might be using them even less. So yeah, really long life span!
If you’ve worked with $3 drugstore brushes, you know that it can be really hard to create a good eyeshadow look for example, right? They are often either too small, too short, or bad quality hair that completely mess up your look (instead of actually giving you a flawless result!). A nice, soft brush will make your life so much easier! Once you experience the difference on your own face, you will know exactly what I mean!
How to find good brushes? Well, it’s not so easy to find them. Usually, even beauty stores don’t have good stuff, maybe you can find something in a pharmacy, but if you want to really upgrade your brushes and are serious about creating natural makeup looks, feel free to reach out and I can help you find exactly the brushes you need. 2 – Know your brushes!
I’ve had so many clients in the past that come into their coaching session, we look at their brushes and they go like “I have these brushes, but I don’t even know what to use them for!”. Does that sound familiar? It can be really overwhelming, that makeup brush collection, right? So here are a few tips:
Don’t store things you don’t use! Why would you keep brushes for years and never use them? Throw away what you don’t need.
Learn which brush to use for which product. Do you have two bigger hairy brushes? The biggest one is for powder, the second one is for the blush.
Find out which brushes you need, but don’t own yet, and add them to your set.

3 – Keep your brushes clean!
Dirty brushes are a paradise for bacteria – they love it! Going back and forth between your skin (collecting bacteria), your product (distributing bacteria) and back to your skin (distributing bacteria again), can really complicate your life and impact your skin health! It will not only be a reason for impurities and pimples, but also make your makeup product go bad. So here’s how to take care of your brushes:
BRUSH CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS:
Separate your soft and hairy brushes (blush, powder, eye shadow brush) from harder hairy brushes and synthetic brushes (e.g. concealer, lip brush, applicator brush)
Wash the harder and synthetic brushes under flowing warm water. Use a mild soap to help the color get out of the brush.
Take a container, a glass, or a jar, and fill it with warm water. Add a mild shampoo and wash the brushes in the container by stirring them in the warm water. Once you feel like all the color came out of the brush (when the water is actually quite dirty!), replace the water with fresh water.
Wash the brushes out in the clean water.
Dry them one by one and put the hair in shape. I use a face cloth to dry the brushes to avoid producing a lot of waste with kleenex.
Place the brushes at the edge of a table with the hair lapping over the edge, so the hair can dry well.
You should clean your brushes like this about once a month. I recommend you to take a Kleenex once a week to wipe your brushes and disinfect them with alcohol to avoid inflammation on your skin.

By keeping your stuff clean and free from bacteria, you’re proving yourself that YOU’RE WORTH IT!
