Sick On Vacation? You Clearly Overworked Yourself!

A few years ago, I used to get sick pretty much every time I went on vacation... All I was doing was working. And when I wasn't working, I would still think about work. I was a store manager at Apple and loved my job, the people, my responsibilities. I had put all my heart and soul into work, but had very weak boundaries with myself, and struggled with switching my mind off after work.

Having trouble switching off your mind

I had a hard time creating a healthy balance between my work and my private life, because I used to think that in order to be a successful woman, I had to work hard and shouldn't take breaks or call in sick. So work was my no. 1 priority in my life and all that mattered to me.

As a result, I continuously drained my body, had trouble sleeping, ate too much takeaway food and chocolate snacks, and was energetically burned out completely everytime I was ready to go on vacation.

So what happened next? My body forced me to rest by getting sick. Because clearly otherwise, there was no way I would have allowed myself to rest! And if I didn't get sick, at least you couldn't do anything with me - you'd just find me sleeping on a sun bed for the first few days.

This is exactly what’s happening to so many of my clients

So many of my clients work so hard. 50/60 hours a week. Especially now with most countries being in lockdown, it's so easy to get back to work after dinner, finish a few emails from bed, and turn your computer on before you even had breakfast.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many of my clients barely give themselves a break. And I mean a break like a break to eat lunch. They eat at their desk, if at all, and rush from meeting to meeting online and switch between 50 million things trying to multitask and do everything at the same time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not to mention it all has to be perfect.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know how this feels. I used to be that person. That person that works a lot, but mostly because I couldn't switch my mind off when I left the store.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few years out of this unhealthy work-work-balance lifestyle, I know there is such a different reality available for you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now I go on vacation (hopefully in 2021 again!) and from day 1, I am full on present and exploring with an open heart and a clear mind! It's the best feeling!
